Summer, 2008

Dear Internet Friends,

Well, summer finally got here. We never thought it would. It was winter one day, and hot, hot summer the next. Now, we’re ready for it to cool off. Oh, my goodness. We’re never satisfied, are we?

We want to tell you much more about “A Day in the Life of a West Texas Cowboy”, the latest DVD we have produced. We got our long awaited rating back from “Video Librarian” with a three star rating out of four. Their closing comment was “An intriguing slice-of-life portrait of a vanishing breed; this is recommended.”

Mary also won a member-in-print award for her work on this DVD at the state convention of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for women teachers recently held in The Woodlands. The comment of the awarding committee was that “every person present should see this true to life picture of cowboy lifestyle as shown by their everyday activities.”

Many people who have seen the DVD already have called us with comments which we were proud to hear. Everyone has praised the DVD’s authenticity. A local educator said he wished he had enough money to afford to buy one of our DVDs for every school in Texas. One person’s comment was that she was raised on a ranch and she could almost smell the branding smoke.

“Texas Monthly” for July came out with a wonderful article by Elmer Kelton, one of Texas’s best writers. He wrote the article “Let Us Now Praise Texas Cowboys.” He described best a real cowboy by saying, “-a common man in an uncommon profession, giving more than he receives, living by a code of conduct his detractors will never understand.” As I read his article, I realized our DVD went right along with what he wrote about.

As you can tell, we are very proud of this production and hope you’ll enjoy your copy.

Until we meet again in the fall, Vaya con Dios.
